Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are master’s programmes run by groups of European universities. You often study in two or three countries during one degree, and the best applicants get a scholarship that covers everything.
There isn’t one central application. Each course runs its own admissions and picks its own scholarship holders, so you can apply to more than one.
What the scholarship pays
- No tuition or application fees for scholarship holders.
- €1,400 a month for the full length of the programme, which runs for 12 to 24 months.
The monthly allowance is meant to cover your travel, visa and living costs, so plan your budget around it.
Who can apply
Students from any country can apply, including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. To keep courses international, no more than 10% of a course’s scholarships can go to students of one nationality, and some places are reserved for applicants from particular regions.
You’ll need a bachelor’s degree (or to finish it before the course starts) and the course’s English requirement, usually shown as an IELTS or TOEFL score.
How to apply
- Search the Erasmus Mundus catalogue for courses in your field.
- Open each course’s own website and read its entry requirements and deadline.
- Apply on that course’s site and tick the scholarship option. Most courses ask for a CV, a motivation letter, transcripts, references and an English test result.
When to apply
Applications usually open between October and January for courses starting the following September. Each course sets its own closing date, and popular courses often close in December or January, so start now.
Tips
- Apply to two or three courses that genuinely match your degree. The motivation letter should explain why that exact course fits your plans.
- Read the selection criteria on each course page. Many score grades, relevant experience and the letter separately.
- Keep your documents ready as PDFs, because each course has its own portal.
